Hurtz Rule
09 Oct 2024Summary
Add 1 IR spot to the rosters. Players in the IR spot at the end of the season will not be allowed to be kept.
Goal
To make player injuries manageable.
Proposal
Starting in the 2025 season, we will add 1 IR spot to every team.
The restrictions on the IR spot are based on the Yahoo default settings. As long as the player is tagged with one of the following statuses, they can be placed in the IR position:
IR
. Injured Reserve.NFI-R
. Non-Football Injury (Reserve)NFI-A
. Non-Football Injury (Active)O
. OutPUP
. Physically Unable to Perform.
Roster Management
When a player is upgraded from IR and loses the designation, Yahoo does not force a player to leave the IR spot.
The Hurtz Rule does not extend or limit Yahoo’s native functionality. This includes, but is not limited to, the following scenarios:
- If Yahoo allows a team to have a player in the IR spot, then it is a legal function.
- If Yahoo prevents a team from making player acquisitions until the IR spot is corrected, then that is also a legal limitation.
In short: if Yahoo allows or disallows an action due to the IR position, no external relief will be provided.
Keepers
Players in the IR spot will not be eligible as a Keeper candidate.
If a Manager intends to have the player as a possible Keeper for the following season, they must remove the player from the IR spot before rosters are frozen for the season. For some teams, freezing the roster may happen during the championship week in the playoffs; for other teams that are eliminated in the middle of playoffs, their rosters may freeze before the championship week.
No exceptions will be made for teams that have frozen rosters prior to the championship week.
