Panda Express League A fantasy football group

2024, Week 13 Newsletter

Press Box Observations

Overview

With the trade deadline come and gone, and the playoffs a couple of weeks away, we’re official in the final stretch of the regular season for fantasy football. While there is plenty of time for folks to clinch their playoff spot, there definitely isn’t room for mistakes.

For the second week in a row, Mike takes the weekly High Score with 131.53 points. Finishing in the century club this week are David, Allen, Josh, Ryan, and – yours truly – me.

David wins this week’s Big Summer Blowout against Fred by winning with a 42.01 lead. Roy takes home the Victory for Ants by barely winning with a 4.31-point margin of victory.

Reviewing the Matchup of the Week

84.70 to 89.01

No more famous words have been said than “don’t call this a comeback”. Along with his Victory for Ants, Roy goes home with a win and upsetting the Matchup of the Week.

This helps with evening out the record, putting the Underdogs at 7-4.

Power Rankings

A picture is a thousand words, but to caption it: there is a lot of movement in the latest Power Rankings.

As Todd regresses to the mean with his team’s performance, he drops 2 ranks and allows Josh & Mike to take over as 1st and 2nd in the power rankings.

With his upsetting loss, Fred dropping by the same amount. Similarly, Despite his team’s performance this week, Roy drops a couple of places with the power ranking formula crediting his place in the standings to a favorable Strength of Schedule (i.e., luck).

David rose 3 ranks from his miraculous victory. With my team regressing to the mean, I’m able to find myself rising 3 places in the power rankings as well.

Matchup of the Week

Instead of watching the rematch between Mike and Todd, we’re going to pick a matchup that has a lot more at stake than playoff seeding.

  • The early projections for the matchup with David and me don’t reflect what they will look like by Thursday, with me already being the obvious Underdog.
  • Tony has a tough matchup this week that will statistically keep him out of the playoffs.
  • Leon is heavily favored by projections.

This only leaves us with 1 match remaining: Fred and Roy. I try to ensure the limelight is shared with everyone, but this game has too much on the line to pass up that we had to give Roy a doubleheader.

Fred and (more specifically) Roy are in must-win situations, with Fred having a much more favorable Week 14. By the tie-breaking rules, Fred will comfortably beat Roy out of playoff contention if they both finished the regular season 7-7.
