Press Box Observations

Overview

With the start of the London games, we anticipated some of the longest NFL days ever. A delay to the Sunday Night Football game extended that window even further: we had football going from 6:30am until 9:50pm.

Week 5 also brought us some really high scores, with 7 teams registering 100+ points. My team clearly didn’t want to join the club with its meager 99.27 points, helping to promote Allen from ‘08 Lions to ‘20 Jaguars with his first win of the season. Josh preserves his membership in the 100-point club, while Leon did the same during his bye week.

Even though he hit 118.02 points, Sam wasn’t able to bring home a Win against Mike and his punny team name. Todd is able to maintain his dominant presence in the league against David; both teams scoring double digits.

A spotlight moment for Roy, who was able to beat Ryan with the smallest margin of 0.34 points.

Reviewing the Matchup of the Week

87.19 to 120.50

Fred finally understands what my loss-filled, plebeian season is like after experiencing his first Loss for the year. Derrick Henry feasted last week, but this week it’s Lamar Jackson cosplaying as Jaime Lannister to slay the king of the league. Sam Darnold pulling in 4.26 is a reminder that not all Quarterbacks are built the same.

By the power of the Fantasy Gods, Josh magically continues his undefeated season going into Week 6.

Power Rankings

The Power Rankings cannot stop the count and must start respecting Josh rising up a significant 3 ranks, with luck on his side. That said, the math starts to recognize Mike as number 1 in the Power Rankings. Todd takes a respectable step down in the ranks, while Fred and Ryan drop a full 2 steps.

Finally, the Power Rankings are starting to reveal how unlucky I am this season at -15%. The “I’m selling this year” is part of it, but we now all know it’s because of my rotten luck.

Matchup of the Week

Along with dealing with injuries, everyone is starting to deal with bye weeks as well. This is no exception to the matchup between Leon and David. Even after some quick substitutions, Leon is the favorite in terms of projected points.

As always, I’m going to take the Underdog here with David. If people think that’s too naive, I’ll raise it up one level with “data”: David has been alternating between a Win and a Loss so far this year. And if he’s being consistent here, he’s scheduled to come up with a Win this week.

Blasting Off Again

I’m looking forward to the Titans coming off their bye so I can grow my Levis GIF collection.
