2024, Week 8 Newsletter
22 Oct 2024Press Box Observations
Overview
This week brought many of us good fortune: 9 teams hit the 100+ point zone. Mike led the week with 122.92 points. Joining him in the century club are Leon, Roy, Ryan, Mike, Fred, Allen, Todd, Josh, and — yours truly — me.
Roy walks away with his head held high, taking this week’s biggest blow-out to ensure David achieves his “perfect” .500 win rate. Josh tried to get cheeky with his line-up and nearly paid for it, scathing by as this week’s smallest victory margin with 2.76
points.
Reviewing the Matchup of the Week
74.21
vs 62.30
This may not have been the most exciting match-up this season, but giving it odds was enough to spice it up. Sam covers his spread of -15.5, which is a win in my book.
Power Rankings
David and Sam are the biggest movers going into Week 8, each team dropping a full 2 steps. David is regressing to the mean of .500
win percentage, but this season’s strength of schedule is sending Sam the worst of luck. I join Sam in the unluckiest club to keep him company.
The Power Rankings doesn’t buy Tony’s position in the standings, and isn’t swindled by his charm. The math believes that he is rightfully at 12th, when you remove all the luck he’s accumulated.
Todd’s luck is starting to take a toll on his place in the Power Rankings, with Mike being 1.55
behind in Power Score.
Matchup of the Week
Week 8’s Matchup of the Week shines the spotlight on Fred and Ryan.
The Power Rankings believe that – with a little bit of beginner’s luck – Ryan would be much higher in the standings. With the Yahoo projections confirming the same, it’s safe to say that Fred is the Underdog going into this matchup.
We’ll give Ryan a spread of -7.5
.
My personal bet here is to go with the Underdogs again: Fred and his Atlanta Falcons won’t go into the night silently.

Interview with Coach Roy
After coming off a triumphant victory, we are able to get a moment from Coach Roy for an exclusive, newsletter interview.
Your team is in an interesting position. You’ve had a rough start to the year, but haven’t made any significant moves on the trade market. What are the biggest challenges you’ll need to overcome this season?
As unbelievable as it is, I am always confident that I can draft a competitive team. My goal is always to compete every season because it makes all the games more interesting to me but if I sell now, I lose that competitiveness (although Tony and Allen might challenge that lol). On the contrary, if I buy now, I need to give up premium 2025 picks so I’ll lose some of that competitiveness for next year. I am in no man’s land.
Who do you think is the most fraudulent “contender” in the league currently? No explanation is necessary. Let that person stew on it.
Mike
Which player would you consider your team captain, and what do they bring to the table?
Not Dak because he brings nothing to anything apparently. I am not salty, promise.
Who do you think is going to win the Championship this season?
Josh
The floor is yours. Do you have any parting shots for the other managers in the league that you want on public record?
I am semi open for business, by appointment only!
Blasting Off Again
We’re halfway through the season at this point. It’s time for some of us to face the music and have those under-performing players ride the pine.
